Ephesians 1:17, 18-19a, 19b-21, Matthew 12-14

Through the New Testament Reading - Matthew 12-14

Ephesians 1

Ephesians 1:17

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Ephesians 1:18-19a

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Ephesians 1:19b-21

That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised his from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Day 3 – Key Verses Considered

Ephesians 1:17

Really knowing God is not something that is done with your mental faculties. God is transcendent, preeminent, supreme! He made your mind. Your limited mind can only go so far in understanding its' limitless Creator. But I don't want you to just know about God, I want you to really know God, like you know your brother or mother or friend. God isn't simply about getting the answer right. God isn't math. God exists in relationship. You know about Jesus. He came to reveal his Father, the glorious God with whom he's lived in love since before time began. And with them was and is the Holy Spirit. All three, living in unity and love beyond anything we can know for an eternity. That's the three-in-one God of relationship that wants to know you. My prayer is that this Spirit, the eternal part of God that has intimately known God and been God forever, would be given to you, so that you may also share in this beautiful, eternally existent community of love, and through relationship with this Spirit really get to know God in the deepest part of your being.

Ephesians 1:18-19a

With God himself, the Spirit of Christ, living inside you, you will become like a whole new person from the inside out. You will see differently, and desire differently. I pray that as you get to know God, you would also come to know who he has called you to be. Now that God's Spirit dwells in you, God is your Father, and Jesus your brother. You've been adopted into this eternally existing family of love. This adoption is as good as blood. In this family, everyone shares, and there is no family more rich or powerful than this one. You're in it! As you get to know Jesus, more and more you will understand just how rich and powerful is this family of which you are now a part.

Ephesians 1:19b-21

When you open your heart for God to dwell in you, you welcome the greatest power and authority in existence to empower your life. The same power that broke the power and finality and authority of death itself when it busted Jesus from the chains of death lives inside of you. With a power like that for you, nothing can be against you. That powerful Spirit of God inside of you is greater than any power or authority in the world. More even than resurrection, this great power for us who believe is the same power that placed the risen Christ in the highest place of authority in all of existence, above every king or president, every bully or CEO, every disaster or consequence, that has ever or will ever exist.
